Falsifying Records:

What to think about nurses who make up accucheck, Nursingdiscussions.com:"I know of 2 nurses in the facility where I work who change the accucheck numbers to lower numbers just so they wont have to call the doc. We have several residents who if their blood sugar is above 200 the doc has to be called. These nurses hate to talk to our medical director. This is falsifying medical records if I am not mistaken. The DON looks over it. Have any of you ever experienced such a thing in your line of nursing? Its very important that our residents are being monitored closely. I dont think its funny or amusing. These nurses tell me I am being too serious and shouldnt be so picky. I am sorry, but I didnt become a RN to make up things about our residents and not report it to the doc. Any one else with the same problem? or any suggestions?"

First thing in the morning, Nursingdiscussions.com:"Our unit secretaries are the best. One of them even keeps the coffee fresh by making a new pot every 45 minutes or so. Eat your hearts out. The only exception I have is that at 06:45AM, I cannot deal with hazelnut cappuccino flavored coffee. I need hot, black, american coffee. How do you guys feel. Can you do foo-foo coffee first thing in the morning?"

First Year On The Floor, Nursingdiscussions.com:"I am in school currently and was wondering what is the standard for where a nurse fresh out of school begins? I want to eventually work in pediatrics or oncology (or both) and know that most must spend a year or so doing med/surg floating. Is this about right? How easy is it to get opportunities beyond med/surg after the first year? I mean, it seems that one may be reluctant to hire a new nurse for surgery or oncology if they have little or no experience in that area. Thanks guys!"

Flu, The (Influenza:

Flu Vaccine, what's your opinion?:"Everyone is scrambling to get a flu shot this year, I'm wonder what the big fuss is all about? Is it only because we all want whatever we can't have?? Is the media causing the "crisis"? In the past, everyone pretty much ignored the flu shots, most of the people I know actually declined it. I understand why it would be beneficial for us, as healthcare professionals, but it's the general public that is freaking out about not having one."

Influenza, how influenza is affecting your life :"Lots of overtime, wearing staff out, Most are working sick, go back to work to soon and get hit again,Also we have had a tremendous amount of pneumonia. Tougher season that expected, With records being broke with admits in a day, hold ever rooms for admissions and discharges during turn overs of room, and nonhouse keepers to be found in the place."

The Flu this year...., Nursingdiscussions.com:"Hearing so much in the media about how severe the flu strain is this year and it seems to be just hitting my state- 5 deaths so far in the last week. I'm just wondering how it's affecting the patient load where you work? Getting lots of cases? Did you get a flu shot? This could be as bad or worse than SARS hitting Toronto. We really can't afford for the staff to get sick. Did your hospital provide flu shots for you this year??"
