What to think about nurses who make up accucheck, Nursingdiscussions.com:"I know of 2 nurses in the facility where I work who change the accucheck numbers to lower numbers just so they wont have to call the doc. We have several residents who if their blood sugar is above 200 the doc has to be called. These nurses hate to talk to our medical director. This is falsifying medical records if I am not mistaken. The DON looks over it. Have any of you ever experienced such a thing in your line of nursing? Its very important that our residents are being monitored closely. I dont think its funny or amusing. These nurses tell me I am being too serious and shouldnt be so picky. I am sorry, but I didnt become a RN to make up things about our residents and not report it to the doc. Any one else with the same problem? or any suggestions?" http://www.nursingdiscussions.com/think
Impaired Nurses, Nursingdiscussions.com:"Hello to all. I am new to this site and I'm so glad to find it. I haven't found a topic though that plagues alot of nurses;which is substance abuse. I became addicted to pain medication while working on an orthopedic floor in 1998 and began diverting pain medication from the hospital. Eventually, (thank God) I was intervened upon and suspended from work pending a psych eval. I went to treatment for a total of 7 months. Now, I am in a state monitoring program that watches me very closely. I am just now getting back into the work force, and it is so hard to tell these potiential employers about my past, even a little embarrassing. I was just wanting some feedback from some others out there? Their experiences? Stories? http://www.nursingdiscussions.com/impaired
What sets your recruiter or company apart?:"I spent a great deal of time picking out a company to work with. So far my choice seems to be a good one. My recruiter has gone out of his way to make sure my needs are met. I was wondering what criteria different people use in selecting a company. For me it is a recruiter I can work with." http://nursingdiscussions.com/apart/
How many of us out there are over 35?:"How many of us out there are over 35? I myself am. I turn 39 on 7-12 and start the ADN program in the fall of this year. I also recevied my GED in January of 02. Call it determination to accomplish my dream. I plan to go to school while working full time and caring for my family, ( a partially disabled husband and two teenage sons). Hows that for determination." http://www.nursingdiscussions.com/35
Are bonuses really important?:"I am a student nurse and will graduate in May of this year. I am applying at a pediatric hospital that does not have bonueses or moving expenses. How important is that. I really like the hospital but others, non-pediatric, have large bonuses that will help me to pay off school expenses and relocate." http://www.ultimatenurse.com/forum/f5/bonuses-really-important-10676/
Can't take blood pressure, Ultimatenurse.com:"I am trying to help my wife out. She is in her senior year of her nursing program. She has never been able to take blood pressures accurately. The way she describes her problem is that she hears her own pulse in the stethoscope instead of the patients. She doesn't seem to be getting any help from her instructors, in fact the current instructor is "God's infallible gift to nursing" so therefore can not imagine anyone else having problem that is legitimate. Has anyone heard of someone else having a similar problem? How did they work around it? My wife's instructor says she aware of some nurses paying other nurses to take BP's for them because for one reason or another they are unable to. Thanks in advance for your help." http://www.nursingdiscussions.com/bp
Assignment From Hell. Who ever thought it would happen to us?:"I am a seasoned traveler and I thought I knew all the questions to ask a new company. I have never had a problem with assignments/contracts/or accommodations.. - that were not resolved by the company I was with.- I have had several excellent assignments with PRN. When I changed companies I never thought I would have to read all the fine lines of the contract..but my most recent contract seems to be all for the company." http://www.nursingdiscussions.com/assignment
average day? (Your) Nursingdiscussions.com:"An average day is running your tail off, trying to do as much for your patients as you can. An average day is watching life and death unfolding before your eyes and trying to stay focused on your job. An average day is knowing some patients are greatly appreciative of your efforts, and some will forget you as soon as you walk out the door of their room." http://www.nursingdiscussions.com/day
